First and foremost Be SAFE. Only do things you can safely do. Stay calm, Neps Emergency Response Team is on the way.
1. Shut Off the Water Immediately
If you have a leak or a busted or ruptured pipe shut off the water. This will hopefully prevent any further damage. Even a seemingly small leak can cause thousands of dollars’ worth of structural damage to your home, so you want to cut off the water supply as soon as possible.
If you have a leaking toilet or faucet, turn off the water going directly to that fixture. If you can’t locate the valve or if the water flow doesn’t stop, the next step is to turn off the water supply to your home. The water shutoff valve should be close to your water meter.
2. Clogged toilets are terrible, STOP using the toilet.
3. Hot Water Heater leaking or malfunctioning shut off the water and turn off power, if you can safely do so.
4. Check for Leaks Some emergencies are less obvious. A pipe leak within a wall or under the flooring may not be easy to spot. However, you can still check for signs of a water leak. This includes stains, mold, dampness, or a musty odor.
5. Create Space

6. Damage Control
Start mopping up puddles or laying towels down. If a pipe is still dripping, place a large pot or bucket underneath it. Turn on fans and open windows (If weather permits) so that your home will dry faster.

How do you know if it’s time to call for emergency heating repair?
Certainly, not every heating issue is an emergency. However, because the furnace utilizes potentially toxic natural gas and a high-temperature burner, certain problems with the furnace should be handled by a professional without delay. Common problems you might check and resolve yourself include:
The furnace doesn’t turn on. Make sure the system is on at the thermostat and set to “Heat” mode.
The temperature in the house is too warm or too cool. Check the thermostat and confirm that the for heating is correct.
Other scenarios, however, present safety issues and should be turned over to a qualified HVAC technician for emergency response. If the furnace will not cycle on at all, this could mean a defective pilot light or electronic igniter. Repair or replacement of these critical components is not a DIY job. If it occurs after hours, you’ll need professional emergency heating repair to restore heat to the house.
If the furnace is blowing cold air and you have verified that the thermostat is in the “Heat” mode and the programmed temperature is correct, you’ll need the services of a qualified HVAC service technician to identify the problem and make necessary repairs.
If you notice the “rotten egg” odor of natural gas in the house, this is an extreme hazard. Don’t attempt to troubleshoot the problem yourself. Get everyone out of the house without delay and call your natural gas provider or the fire department to turn off the gas.
